Pictures from Class

As we get ready for our chapel performance, we're working hard!  We do like to have LOTS of fun in class, too.  Here's a few pictures of us learning the steps, and learning how to glorify God through our abilities!

Getting Ready for Chapel!

Having Fun and Working Hard!
Our students have been hard at work learning their dances for Chapel!  This year, we're doing something different for our chapel performance.  We're exploring how God can be glorified through all of our talents.

God uses all of our talents, gifts, and abilities to call us into service for His Kingdom!  He also uses our experiences throughout life to refine and prepare us to live the purpose for which we were created.

Maybe you think that dance isn't very important.  Maybe you think dancing is just fun, but doesn't have much to do with who a person becomes later in life.  Maybe you think God doesn't place a high premium on the entire dance experience.  If you relate to that, I encourage you to join us at chapel Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 9:45 or 10:20 in the PVCP gym.  We'll show you why God DOES care, and He even uses dance to fulfill His will!

Video: Xperience Dance performing at WellCare Foundation's Showtime Fundraiser

Here's our 6th-8th grade dance students performing at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix for the WellCare Foundation's fundraiser, Showtime.  A huge thanks to all the positive words of encouragement from the attendees!  For most of the students, this was the first time they were able to see how organizations can unite to help each other reach their goals.  The kids learned about the importance of healthcare, and how many working single moms in our community have to do without.

As their teacher, I was so proud of them!  They did an amazing job representing our class, our school, and our Lord.

Enjoy the video!

6th-8th Grade Xperience Dancers at Showtime Fundraiser for the WellCare Foundation

On Saturday October 15th, the junior high Xperience Dancers had the opportunity to reach out and use their dance talents to benefit a great cause.

The WellCare Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides free integrated healthcare to working single moms and their children in need.  The single moms that benefit from this organization earn too much money to qualify for government assistance, but not enough to afford healthcare benefits for themselves and/or their children.

Xperience Dance instructor Jacki Semerau is co-chair of the marketing committee for WellCare, and has been highly involved with the organization for the past 2 years.  A former WellCare Mom herself, this charity is one that remains close to Jacki's heart.

So when the event committee co-chairs for WellCare's fundraiser Showtime approached Jacki to provide entertainment for the opening act, Jacki knew exactly who to choose...the Xperience Dancers!

Beginning in September, the dancers began learning the street jazz routine they would be performing at the fundraiser.

When considering what song would tell the story of WellCare Foundation, Jacki had the perfect choice: Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath.  "Marge Ebeling, Founder of WellCare, is someone who opened her eyes to a group of women who often have no voice or influence; single moms who work and flourish to the best of their abilities.  Marge started the WellCare Foundation because she recognized her high calling, and acted passionately upon it.  The dancers had the opportunity to stand beside her and help her share her message by using their talent at the benefit."

The kids did a fantastic job!  Their dance helped encourage the event attendees to support Marge and the WellCare Foundation.  Stay tuned for the next entry on this blog...we'll be posting the video of their performance!

Welcome to PVCP's Xperience Dance Blog

The Xperience Dancers are too amazing not to have their own space on the internet!  So here it is.  Keep up with what's going on, both in class and out.  Our main goal is to praise God through the art of dance.

Xperience Dance is in it's second year at Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory.  Started by Christy Culver and Jacki Semerau in 2010, the junior high dance elective was revamped to include multiple dance genres.  Focusing on hip hop, jazz, ballet, and contemporary, the students are learning that God gives us MANY different ways to express our love for Him.

What can you expect from this blog?

  • Read about upcoming events, recitals, and what the students are learning in class.
  • Learn about Christian principles and how they relate to dance.
  • Watch videos of performances and class rehearsals.
  • See pictures of recitals, class time, and other dance related activities.
  • Read what praising God through dance means to the students in their own words
  • And more!
We look forward to sharing Christ's love through our dance...and through this blog!
